My uncle in Fresno laughed at my 12 cans of tuna, and after the ice storm I got the last laugh
Three winters back my Uncle Ray in Fresno told me stocking tuna was dumb because the store is 10 minutes away and "nothing ever happens here." Then the ice storm hit and we lost power for 6 days, and the one store that stayed open sold out of everything canned by day two. I ate tuna and crackers while he drove 40 miles looking for an open Walmart. So for the folks who say a couple weeks of food is overkill, what is your actual plan when the roads ice over? Tell me, I want to hear it.
Nothing ever happens here" is the exact sentence people say right before something happens. Same energy as the guy who says he does not need a spare tire because he never gets flats, or the neighbor who skipped flood insurance because the creek never came up that high. Life is mostly boring right up until it is not, and the boring part is what tricks you into thinking you can skip the prep. Six days of power loss is nothing compared to what some folks deal with, and yet your uncle was still driving 40 miles like the rules did not apply to him. The tuna was not the win. The win was you not being surprised.
