My generator died after 6 hours in a power outage last Tuesday
I prepped for months on that thing. Tested it every Saturday for 3 weeks straight and it ran fine. Then the real blackout hit and it sputtered out before the sun even came up. Turns out the carburetor was clogged even though I used fuel stabilizer. Had to haul my freezer stuff to my neighbor's house two blocks away. Anyone else have a backup plan fail at the worst possible time?

That fuel stabilizer stuff is overrated honestly. Did you actually run the carb dry before you stored it? That's the real test, not just dumping stabilizer in and hoping for the best. I learned that lesson the hard way with my snowblower last winter when it refused to start after sitting for two months. The stabilizer just delays the problem, it doesn't fix the underlying issue of ethanol gas turning into varnish in those tiny passages.

Nah. Stabilizer works fine if you use it right.

Huh, I don't know if it's really that serious. I mean yeah ethanol gas can be a pain but I've had stuff sit for like 4 months with just stabilizer and it fired right up. Maybe I just got lucky or maybe it depends on the engine. Feels like people make a bigger deal out of this than it actually is most of the time.
