Last 6 months showed me freeze dried fruit beats canned for long term storage
I used to stockpile canned peaches and pears like crazy, figured they'd last forever. Then I opened a 2 year old can last spring and the syrup was all weird and metallic tasting. Switched over to freeze dried berries from a bulk order I did in January and they still taste fresh and crunchy. The difference is night and day, the texture holds up way better and no liquid waste. Anyone else ditch cans for freeze dried after a bad experience?

My buddy tried to pass off some canned pineapple from 2021 as "still good" at a party last month. Took one bite and felt like I was chewing on a tin can with sugar water. Freeze dried stuff is totally different though, I grabbed a bag of mango chunks from a bulk buy and they still snap when you bite them. No gross liquid to drain or weird aftertaste, just straight up fruit.

Oh man, your buddy is a brave soul (or maybe just cheap) for cracking open that 2021 pineapple. I had a similar thing happen with a can of peaches my roommate found in the back of the cupboard last year, they tasted like soggy metal with a hint of peach ghost. But yeah, freeze dried fruit is a whole different world, I got a bag of raspberries that crumble into powder when you bite them and they taste like fresh ones just without the squish. No weird syrup or tinny flavor, just pure fruit crunch.
