Hot take: Canned beans expire way faster than you think in a hot garage.

I dug out my emergency stash last weekend and found half the cans were bloated from sitting in 100 degree heat for 8 months. The USDA says canned food lasts years but they mean in a cool basement at 70 degrees. How do you guys store bulk food without climate control?

My buddy lost a whole pallet of green beans from Costco because he stored them in a metal shed in Arizona. The cans were bulging and one actually burst open after about 6 months. I started rotating my stash into the coolest corner of the crawlspace and digging a small pit in the dirt floor to sink them down a couple feet helped keep them around 80 degrees instead of 110. What kind of shelf life are you seeing with your typical canned goods after that heat exposure?

Feel your pain. Lost a case of chili that way last summer.
