Had a close call at a hardware store in Des Moines that changed my prepping
Last month I was at a big hardware store in Des Moines loading up on extra plywood and tarps for storm prepping. A older guy stocking shelves told me he keeps a smaller backup chainsaw in his trunk because his main one broke mid-cleanup after a derecho two years ago. That never crossed my mind, I always just bought one big gas saw and called it good. Has anyone else run into a single point of failure situation like that with their gear?

I've had that exact thing happen. Had a big Stihl saw that ran perfect for years, then during a cleanup after a bad windstorm the carburetor went out. Spent the whole next day driving around town trying to find parts. Now I keep a second smaller electric chainsaw in my truck bed just for backup. Same with generator. Got a main one for the house, but I keep a little inverter generator in the shed that'll run the fridge and a few lights if the big one goes down. It's the small stuff that'll trip you up too. Like having a spare belt for your snowblower or an extra cord for your drill.
