Found a cheap trick for sealing mylar bags without a heat sealer

I was rotating my emergency food stash last month and realized I had a bunch of open mylar bags with no way to reseal them. Tried using a regular clothes iron on low heat and it actually worked way better than I expected. Just put a thin towel over the bag and pressed for about 10 seconds. Has anyone else tried random household items for sealing food storage?

And then if you don't have a straight iron either, you can try using a flat bottomed pot or pan that you heat up on the stove. Just warm it on low for a minute, wipe it clean, and press it down on the bag through a towel for about 15 seconds. I've used a cast iron skillet before and it worked PERFECTLY for sealing up some rice bags. Just make sure the pan is hot but not SCORCHING or you'll melt right through the mylar.

Cast iron works great for this, just don't let it sit too long or you'll have a mess.
