Panel swap took me 8 hours but brought ADT system up to code
Had a job in Medford last Tuesday. Old DSC panel in a strip mall. Wires everywhere, no labels. Customer wanted a Vista 20p instead. Took me all day to trace zones and reterminate. Night and day difference though. Clean wiring, proper resistors at each sensor. Anyone else find these swaps worth the extra time?

And doing it the right way the first time saves you from coming back later. I did a swap last month in a doctor's office that was just as bad, took me almost ten hours to get everything labeled and landed clean. Feels good to walk away from a panel swap knowing it'll pass inspection without a fight.

Ten hours on a doctor's office swap? How many circuits were you dealing with that took that long for a panel swap?

That whole "do it right or do it twice" thing applies to way more than electrical work. I spent an afternoon last year putting together a cheap bookshelf from the hardware store, skipped tightening a few screws because I was in a hurry, and three months later the whole thing collapsed and broke a lamp I actually liked. Had to buy a nicer bookshelf and spend another afternoon fixing it properly.
