Oh man, that's exactly the kind of thing that would make me walk over and ask what they're doing. Was the installer staring at the window like they were trying to figure out the best angle, or did it look more like they were just zoning out for a second? I feel like those little moments can tell you a lot about whether someone actually knows what they're doing or if they're just going through the motions. Did you get a chance to see what sensor they were holding, or were they just standing there with a blank look?

Runs in my family actually - my dad's a contractor and he's always said you can spot the pros by how they move. The good ones don't stand around staring, they're constantly adjusting their tool belt, checking their levels, making small movements like they're testing things out. The ones who freeze up are usually either brand new or just don't care enough to think ahead. Had a plumber once who stood in my bathroom for a solid 2 minutes staring at the pipes under my sink like he was waiting for them to say something. He ended up putting the wrong valve on and it leaked everywhere. That little freeze moment is almost always a red flag.

Honestly, "zoning out for a second" is exactly what it looked like to me. Tbh, the guy was just standing there staring at the window like he was trying to remember if he left the stove on at home. Ngl, if I was the homeowner I'd be a little worried my alarm system is being installed by someone who looks like they're having an existential crisis over a window sensor. Like, come on buddy, it's a magnetic strip, not a puzzle from a escape room.
