I do mostly residential alarm work around the north side of Columbus, and most weeks are a mess of drive time, reschedules, and homeowners who forgot I was coming. Last week was different. A builder I've worked with off and on for about 5 years called me and said he had 11 spec homes closing at the end of the month, all on one street, and he wanted me in and out before the drywall guys touched anything. That never happens. Usually I'm fishing wire through finished walls and patching drywall I didn't cut. I showed up Monday at 7 and all 11 units were framed, open, and marked with the panel location he wanted. Prewire on the doors and windows was already stubbed, which saved me probably 40 minutes a house. I did 3 panels Monday, 3 Tuesday, 3 Wednesday, and finished the last 2 by noon Thursday. Four days, 11 panels, no return trips, no angry calls. Came out to about $6,400 in labor for the week, which is better than most full months I've had since I went out on my own. I know it won't last, but has anyone else had a builder actually set you up like that, or is this a one time thing?
