Basement flood test in Buffalo made me change my sensor mounts
I was doing a final walkthrough on a new install in Buffalo and the customer decided to test their sump pump right as I finished mounting the water sensors. The backup battery was dead so the pump kicked on, then the check valve jammed and sent a spray straight up into the utility room. One of my contact sensors took a direct hit and started beeping false alarms every 20 minutes. I spent two hours drying it out with a hair dryer and re-sealing the housing with silicone. Now I always mount those sensors at least 6 inches up the wall and use a drip loop, has anyone else had to deal with a wet sensor that keeps crying wolf?
Man that check valve spray sounds like a nightmare, especially right after you got everything buttoned up. I've had a leaky pipe soak one of my sensors before and it did the same thing, beeped every 15 or 20 minutes until the board dried out completely. Silicone and a drip loop is smart, I started doing the 6 inch thing too after that. Wet sensors really do keep crying wolf and it drives you nuts.
