Appreciation post: My mentor in Cleveland told me to always pre-pull my wire runs before mounting any sensors, and after a messy 3-hour rework on a big house job, I finally get it.
He said, 'You'll thank me when you're not crawling back through an attic for a single 22/4,' and now I never skip that step, so what's the ONE basic tip that saved YOU the most headache?

Ugh, I was totally the guy who thought testing ports first was a waste of time... like, the switch is new, it should just work, right? Learned the hard way after a full day of troubleshooting a whole camera system. One dead port messed up everything, and I had to re-terminate every single end point before I even thought to check it. Now that little tester comes out before anything else, no question. It saves so much stupid backtracking.

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy's story. He was rushing a camera install and didn't check the PoE switch port first. Ended up tracing a bad cable for an hour only to find the port itself was dead. He tests every single port with a known good cable now before he even starts a run.
