Appreciation post: a fire marshal in Toledo made me rethink my whole approach to exit delay settings

I always set them for the max 60 seconds thinking more time was safer, but he pointed out that gives an intruder a full minute inside after the alarm triggers. Now I default to 30 seconds unless there's a specific mobility need. What's your standard delay time for a basic residential setup?

Hold up, "gives an intruder a full minute" is a bit much. That delay is for you to walk to the door and turn it off, not for a home invasion. If someone's already inside when it goes off, they're running out, not hanging around.

Ever think about how loud those alarms are? I mean, my neighbor's went off last week and it was so jarring I almost jumped out of my skin. Can't imagine anyone sticking around to calmly look for stuff with that noise blaring.
