5 minute pre-flight walk saved me $12k" yeah that is exactly the kind of thing I would roll my eyes at until it happened to me. I had a buddy who let his truck sit for like two months and the oil basically turned into mud. He drove it straight onto the highway and blew the motor maybe five miles later. A simple walk around would have caught the leak or the weird noise before he wrecked everything. People act like you are being paranoid but machines need to warm up and settle just like people do. Twelve grand is a hard lesson to learn the lazy way.

A pre-flight walk is just good sense. I started doing it years ago after I had a coolant hose split in my driveway and lost all my antifreeze before I even backed out. I would have cooked the engine in two minutes if I had just started it and drove off. Now I just walk around the truck while my engine idles for thirty seconds. Check the tires, look for puddles under it, sniff for gas or burning oil. It takes less time than scrolling through my phone and it has saved me from a tow truck more than once.
