Talked to a retired Delta mechanic at the airport diner last week

He told me he never trusts a torque wrench that hasn't been calibrated in 6 months, said he saw a guy strip a spar cap once because he was too lazy to check. Made me realize I've been relying on my tools way too much without double-checking them. Anyone else ever had a close call because of a tool you just assumed was good?

Man, that's rough. I've had that exact same sick feeling when a tool doesn't feel right and you know you should've checked it sooner. @murphy.blair's tape trick is solid, I'm gonna start doing that myself.

You ever get that gut feeling something's off and ignore it? I had a torque wrench I used for years, never checked it, then one day I was torquing cylinder head bolts on my truck and it clicked way too early. I stopped, borrowed my buddy's fresh calibrated one, and had to redo half the bolts because mine was off by like 15 pounds. Now I mark a date on a piece of tape and stick it on the handle, swap it out every 6 months like clockwork.

Ngl I used to be one of those "it's fine, it's never let me down" guys but after reading what @murphy.blair said I'm starting to get paranoid lol. Gotta check mine tomorrow now
