Noticed a weird change in how new guys handle torque wrenches

I was training a new hire last week over at the Cincinnati hangar and he kept snapping bolts on a 737 flap track. Turns out he was setting the clicker wrench to ft-lbs but reading the scale in inch-pounds. Three bolts in a row before I caught it. That's the third time in 6 months I've seen that exact mistake from fresh A&P grads. Any of you old-timers noticing a pattern with the training schools?

Is this coming from students not knowing inch-pounds exist?

Yeah, that hits close to home. I've seen the same confusion with digital torque adapters too.

Marking both scales with a paint pen fixed it for us, @margaret_taylor42.
