Just caught a nearly invisible crack because I changed my light angle

Always vary your lighting during visual checks or you'll miss subtle flaws.

My first woodworking table was a spiderweb of cracks I missed. Didn't learn the light trick until year two.

Honestly though, sometimes chasing every single hairline crack just sucks the life out of a project. I mean, if the thing is solid and you've done the joinery right, a few tiny cracks in the grain are just character. I've seen people sand something for weeks trying to get it glass smooth under a raking light, and the final piece feels more like plastic than wood. It stops being a handmade table and starts feeling like you're trying to factory-print it.

Sunlight at 45 degrees shows everything.
