I finally switched from standard sockets to thin wall ones on engine work

Honestly, I used to think standard sockets were fine for everything. Then I had a job on a PT6 turboprop where I couldn't get a good bite on a B-nut in a tight spot. Borrowed a thin wall set from a coworker, and it fit perfectly. Over the next two weeks, I noticed I was finishing those stubborn torque checks about 15 minutes faster per engine. Has anyone else had a tool swap that shaved that much time off their routine?

Ha! Right? I spent YEARS wrestling with standard sockets before I wised up. First time I used thin walls on a tight exhaust manifold I felt like such a MORON for not switching sooner. Seriously saved my knuckles from getting torn up too. Now I'm THAT guy who brings his own set to every job.

@johnson.daniel exactly right, a buddy of mine bent his wrist wrong on a tight flange and spent a week in a brace before switching.

Wrap a rag around it first next time to save your wrist.
