Finally got my A&P license after failing the oral on fuel systems twice

Took the oral exam three times total. Failed the first two on fuel system questions. Spent about $400 extra on retest fees and study guides I didn't need. The third time, I just focused on the manuals we already had in the shop. Passed it easy. Should have just trusted the books from the start. Anyone else have a section that tripped them up for a while?

Used to think I needed all the extra study guides too. Blew like $150 on electrical system manuals before my general exam. Realized the FAA handbooks had everything if I just read them slower. Now I tell new guys to save their money and highlight the actual required reading first.

But those guides break it down way faster.

Man, why do we all fall for the extra guides? I get what mark361 is saying about them being faster, but I swear they just made me overthink the hydraulics section. The basic book was sitting there the whole time, judging me.
