Warning: My air fryer basket coating started peeling after 6 months

I bought a Cosori air fryer last March and last week I noticed black flakes on my french fries. Turns out the nonstick coating is coming off the basket and I had to throw out a whole batch of food. Has anyone else had this happen and found a safe replacement basket?

Oh man that’s rough. I had a similar thing happen with my old Teflon pan last year. The coating started flaking right into my eggs one morning. Couldn’t even tell until I saw shiny bits in the scramble. Threw the whole thing out and went back to stainless steel. Less sticky but at least no mystery flakes in my food.

Did you actually get sick from the flakes or just toss it out of principle? I've heard Teflon is basically inert unless you really overheat it, but eating plastic bits still feels wrong. Seems like stainless is the safer longterm bet even if you gotta work a bit harder on cleanup.

The real issue nobody talks about is how those flakes can mess with your cast iron seasoning if you use both types of pans. Once Teflon gets into your workflow, that nonstick residue can transfer to other pans in the dishwasher or while stacked in the cabinet. Next thing you know your perfectly seasoned carbon steel starts acting weird and nothing sticks right anymore. It's like cross contamination in a chemistry lab but for your kitchen gear. That's the part that drove me crazy more than the health risk to be honest.
