The whole time I was crowding the basket on fries and wondering why they came out soggy
I kept seeing all these crispy photos on here and my fries were always limp and sad no matter what temp I used. Then last Tuesday my neighbor brought over her air fryer sweet potato fries that were perfect and she saw me pile mine up like a mountain and laughed. Do you guys really believe in single layer only or is there a trick to making a bigger batch work without half cooking?

Wait, your neighbor just LAUGHED at you for piling them up? That's cold man, I'd be so embarrassed I'd probably just hand her the basket and walk inside. But honestly I've tried the single layer thing and it works way better than I thought it would, I just do two batches now and keep the first one warm in the oven on low heat.

I was about six batches deep before I realized it was my impatience, not the air fryer.
