The Great Brussels Sprout Fire Drill of Tuesday

I was trying to crisp up some Brussels sprouts in my air fryer for dinner, but I guess I got the temp a little too high, maybe 425. Next thing I know, the smoke alarm in my apartment is screaming and my neighbor, Dave, is pounding on the door thinking the building is on fire. I had to fan the door with a towel for like ten minutes. Anyone else set off every alarm in a three-mile radius with a veggie?

Oh man, I feel this so hard. I did the exact same thing with broccoli last month. Tried to get those little crispy bits on the florets, and my whole kitchen looked like a fog machine went off. My cat was hiding under the bed and my roommate was waving a baking sheet at the alarm. Tbh, I think any green veggie is a smoke alarm trigger waiting to happen.

My friend Carla in apartment 4B managed to smoke out her whole hallway with kale chips last fall. She was aiming for extra crispy and left them in just a few minutes too long. The building's fire alarm went off and everyone had to stand outside in the rain for twenty minutes. The super still gives her a look when they pass in the lobby. It's crazy how a healthy snack can cause such a big scene.

Ever wonder why healthy food is so good at setting off alarms?
