PSA: My sister in law swears frozen fries go in at 400 for 20 min and I watched her pull out a tray of chalk
She posted a video in our family group chat last Tuesday of her "crispy" sweet potato fries and they looked like burnt matchsticks. I finally just sent her my temp chart, 380 for 12 with a shake at the 7 minute mark, and she argued with me for an hour. Does anyone else have a relative who treats the air fryer like a regular oven and refuses to hear otherwise?
People treat new gadgets like their old ones because it's easier than reading a manual. Same thing happens with microwaves, people nuke stuff for 10 minutes on high and then act shocked when it's rubber. Your sister in law probably grew up with a big oven that took forever so her brain is stuck on "more time equals more crispy." Air fryers move hot air fast so they cook way quicker, and sweet potato fries are already tricky since they burn before they crisp. Sending her the chart was a solid move but arguing with someone who won't hear it just drains you. Some folks gotta eat chalk a few more times before it clicks.
