My wife walked in while I was air frying a whole pizza slice sideways
So I wedged a leftover slice of pepperoni into my 5.8 quart air fryer at a 45 degree angle because it was too long for the basket, and my wife asked if I was 'performing some kind of kitchen exorcism'. The cheese slid off into the heating element and started smoking like a fog machine at a high school dance. Does anyone else just cram food in there sideways and pray for no fire alarms?}

LMAO @amy_murphy85 is spot on about the hot air blockage. That 45 degree angle is basically asking for a smoke show. I've wedged a burrito in mine sideways before and it came out half raw on one end and burnt on the other, no joke. Gotta say though, your wife calling it a kitchen exorcism is gold, I'm stealing that for when I inevitably do the same thing again.

I had a similar situation with my 4.2 quart air fryer last week. The problem is that sideways cooking can actually block the hot air from moving around, which is how air fryers work. My cheese did the same thing and I had to clean the heating element with a damp paper towel after it cooled down. Your wife's exorcism comment is pretty funny though, I just got a weird look from my dog. Next time try cutting the slice in half or standing it up against the basket wall with the crust on the bottom, it helps with the cheese situation.
