My mom schooled me on air fryer temps after I burned her chicken
Last Sunday she came over and saw me setting my air fryer to 400 for some drumsticks. She just laughed and said "you're cooking them like a deep fryer, not an air fryer." She showed me her method of 360 for 22 minutes with a flip halfway and they came out perfect. Made me realize I've been overcooking stuff this whole time thinking higher heat = better crunch. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on bad air fryer habits?

Dude same thing happened to me but with fries! I was blasting everything at 400 thinking I was some kinda air fryer expert. My sister came over one day and saw me loading up a batch and she was like "you're gonna ruin those." I was all defensive but she made me try 370 for 16 minutes with a shake at the halfway point and holy crap they came out actually crispy on the outside and soft inside instead of just burnt on one side. Now I'm constantly checking recipes cause apparently just crankng the heat is the laziest way to mess stuff up. Your mom did you a solid for real.

Oh man, your mom was totally right. I learned that the hard way too. Higher heat doesn't mean better crunch, it just means burnt on the outside and raw on the inside. The magic with an air fryer is that lower temp for longer gives the hot air time to get through the meat. Now I start everything at 350 unless it's something thin like fries. It takes a little more patience but stuff comes out way juicier. I bet your drumsticks were probably dry before she showed you. That's a solid lesson she gave you.
