Update: I just balanced efficiency with fairness in an AI model for work
I mean, idk, maybe it's just me, but I was using an AI to optimize material costs for a job, and I noticed it was recommending mixes that cut corners on sustainability. It felt like a moral gray area because it saved money but wasn't ethical. After adjusting the parameters to prioritize eco-friendly options, the model still works well, and I'm calling that a win. Sure, it's a bit more expensive, but aligning with my values feels right. Still, it's tricky when business pressures push the other way.

Prioritizing sustainability over cost cuts is a solid move.

I get what you are saying, but a single person tweaking one model feels pretty small. The real impact is when the whole company policy changes. My last job's supplier switched to cheaper, non recycled materials and their overall carbon footprint probably went up way more than your model saved.

A few years back I would have just gone with the cheaper mix to save a buck... seeing someone actually tweak the system to match their ethics, that hits different.
