Showerthought: I read that an AI beat the world champion at Go in 2016, and I still think about that
I was reading an old article on my phone last night about how AlphaGo took down Lee Sedol four games to one back in March of 2016. What got me was that move 37 in game two, the one nobody expected, and the commentators thought it was a mistake at first. Here I was in 2016 thinking computers could only handle checkers, and then this thing plays a move that pros now study like a classic game. I remember my brother calling me that week saying we were all done for, and I laughed it off. Fast forward to now and I use AI to help write emails at work without even thinking about it. Does anyone else remember watching those games live, or was it just me staying up too late for the recaps?
