Shoutout to the $20 AI transcription tool that saved my butt in a 3 hour meeting
I had to sit through a 3 hour budget meeting in Chicago last month and I am terrible at taking notes. My boss talks fast and jumps around, so I always miss stuff. I paid $20 for a month of an AI transcription app that records and turns speech into text on the fly. It caught every number and name, even when three people talked at once. I went back and checked it against my own scribbles and the app got way more right than I did. I sent the summary to my team and my boss asked how I got it all down so clean. Now I am thinking about using it for every call. Has anyone else tried one of these tools for work meetings, and did it ever mess up a key detail on you?
Checked mine against a recording once and it had flipped two numbers on a budget line, said 15k when it was really 50k. That kind of thing will bite you if you never look it over. The trick is to scan the summary for any number or name that actually matters, then go back to that spot in the audio and confirm it. Takes five minutes instead of an hour of note taking. Also worth saying the mic matters more than the app, a laptop across the table will drop words when people mumble or talk over each other. Put your phone or a little recorder right in the middle of the table and the whole thing gets way cleaner. So yeah use it for every call, just treat it like a first draft you still have to check, not the final word.
