Wasted $200 on an AI resume optimizer that just made up skills

I paid for this AI service that promised to scan my resume and optimize it for job applications. It added three fake certifications I never had and wrote a summary that sounded like a robot trying to be a motivational speaker. Lost a job interview callback because the hiring manager called me out on one of the made up skills. I spent 4 hours fixing the damage and redid my resume from scratch. Has anyone else had AI tools just fabricate stuff on their behalf? How do you even trust these things?

Blame the tool instead of yourself for not proofreading before sending it out.

Yeah, always proofread AI stuff. It lies like a cheap watch.

@grant_hart nailed it. AI will straight up lie to your face if you let it. I've seen guys on my crew try using those tools and get burned the same way. Best advice I got was to treat AI like a dumb assistant that needs constant babysitting. Run any changes through a quick google search before you slap them on something important. Sucks you lost that callback, but at least now you know to keep a tight leash on anything automated.
