TIL my smart fridge's 'helpful' grocery list feature quietly dropped the local butcher I've used for 3 years.

It happened last Tuesday when I realized the list it auto-generated after scanning my empty shelves only showed corporate chain options, which made me wonder who else is getting erased by these 'convenient' algorithms.

Honestly, has anyone checked if these algorithms are quietly promoting brands that paid for placement? Tbh it wouldn't surprise me if that local spot got bumped for a supermarket that cut a deal. Feels like hidden ads in our own kitchens.

Hidden ads in our own kitchens, I feel that in my search history.

Yeah, @olivia_allen is onto something with the paid placement idea. It's not just ads, it's these algorithms slowly rewriting our local economy without anyone noticing. Soon your whole town could look the same because the tech only suggests what's in its paid database.
