Switched from AI moderation to human review for our forum, night and day difference

I run a small tech forum with about 8,000 active users, and for 3 months we had an AI moderation tool flagging posts for hate speech and spam. It caught obvious stuff fine, but it nuked a ton of legit comments, like a user joking about 'killing it' at a coding challenge got auto-banned. Last week I switched to a two-person review queue where AI just sorts and flags, then a human decides. The false positive rate dropped from maybe 30% to under 5%, and our regulars actually noticed the shift in tone within days. What convinced me was a veteran member posting a screenshot of his banned message that was clearly sarcasm, and the follow-up thread had 40 replies calling out the bot. Has anyone else tried a hybrid setup and found the human layer worth the cost, or is that just a luxury for smaller communities?
