Shoutout to the $60 I dropped on an AI resume optimizer that just added the word 'spearheaded' 14 times
Warned my cousin in Boise not to waste the cash after mine came back reading like a robot wrote it, so has anyone actually found a checker that spots that stiff AI tone or are we all just guessing?
Wasted $40 on one of those last year and it told me my resume needed more "action verbs" so I changed every single line to start with a verb and now it reads like a caveman wrote it. Looking back I basically paid a robot to tell me another robot didn't like my robot voice, which is honestly the most 2024 thing I've ever done. The real kicker is my cousin in Nampa did the same thing after I warned her, so now we're both out cash and still guessing. From what I can tell, those tone checkers mostly just flag anything that sounds too smooth or too perfect, which means they nail AI text but also hate anyone who actually writes well. Your best bet is reading it out loud, because stiff writing trips your ear way faster than any $60 tool will catch it. If it sounds like a press release when you say it, it probably reads that way too.
