PSA: My bank's AI flagged my $80 grocery run as fraud but let a $900 charge from another state go through
Last Tuesday I got a text at 7am asking if I really spent $80 at the Piggly Wiggly in Mobile, and I had to call and sit on hold for 25 minutes to clear it. Two days before that, somebody ran $900 through a site I've never heard of and the system didn't blink. I asked the rep why the dumb little grocery charge got caught and the big one slid, and she just said the AI looks at patterns and wouldn't say more. So now I'm wondering, is this thing protecting me or just watching me? Anyone else had their card locked over a coffee but not over something way bigger?
So the AI only catches you when you're buying eggs but lets a stranger drop 900 bucks like it's nothing? Sounds less like fraud protection and more like a mall cop who only yells at kids on skateboards. Maybe the trick is to start every purchase with a shady out of state website so the system thinks that's just your normal thing.
