My neighbor's kid asked me a question about his homework that made me worry.
He's 12, and his teacher had them use an AI chatbot to write a book report on 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. The kid told me, 'It wrote it faster, so I just turned it in.' That wasn't learning, it was just getting a task done. Are we setting up a generation to value speed over understanding?

Honestly, that sounds like a pretty smart use of time.

Is it really that different from copying a summary off the internet? The kid still had to ask the chatbot.

Eh, kids have been cheating on book reports forever... at least this way he's seeing how the tech works. Maybe the real problem is giving homework a chatbot can do.
