My AI hiring screener rejected 14 qualified people in one morning

I was reviewing applications at my desk in Columbus last Tuesday and noticed the tool auto-denied candidates with military service gaps, even though those gaps were deployment. I had to manually override each one and tell HR to disable the filter, but we lost three great resumes in the meantime. Has anyone else caught their screening AI making similar bad calls?

Talked to a buddy who recruits for a chain of auto parts stores and their AI flagged every applicant who listed "self employed" as a gap filler. One guy ran his own landscaping business for two years and the system tagged him as a job hopper. My friend had to dig through like 30 rejected profiles to pull the good ones back out. He said the filter was set to punish anyone with a break longer than 60 days, zero context allowed.
