I used to think AI art was just a cool tool, then my friend's kid lost a school contest to a generated image.

Honestly, it hit me when she said 'I worked on my drawing for a week and the computer won in five minutes.' That's not just a tool anymore, it's a real problem for people trying to start out. Has anyone else seen something like this happen?

My cousin's band lost a local poster contest to a Midjourney image last month.

That "lost to a Midjourney image" thing hits close to home. My friend's art got passed over for a festival flyer by some generic AI landscape. It just kills the whole point of a local contest.

Wasn't there a rule against AI art?
