Got chewed out for using AI to sort resumes, now I'm second-guessing everything
I work in HR for a chain of 12 grocery stores in Ohio, and last week I used an AI tool to filter 300 applications for a new store manager role (it was taking me forever). My boss saw the shortlist and noticed none of the candidates were over 45, then she pointed out the AI was skipping anyone with gaps in employment history or non-traditional job titles. I hadn't even thought about that bias stuff, I was just trying to save time. Has anyone else here had an AI hiring tool backfire on them in a way you didn't see coming?

Bro come on, an AI is just a tool doing what you told it to do based on data patterns. If your boss didn't like the results then maybe the problem is your hiring criteria not the software itself. You saved time and found people who fit the mold you set up, that's the whole point.

Wait, isn't that basically what profiles and screening tests have always done, just faster? Like if you hired based on the same exact criteria but did it manually nobody would blame the clipboard, you know?
