Got chewed out by a dev friend for using AI to grade student essays

He said I was basically outsourcing my own judgment and now I only use it to catch grammar stuff never to assign a final score. Has anyone else had to reset how they use these tools after someone called them out?

Honestly shocked you actually admitted to using it for grading at all. Your chef friend was right though, meal kits still let you choose the seasoning and timing. Ngl, using AI for the final score just feels like skipping the whole point of being a teacher.

Had a buddy who taught high school English for like 8 years and he told me he used one of those old autocorrect programs to catch the easy mistakes. Then he'd go back and actually read the essays for the real grading. He said it saved him maybe 15 minutes per stack of papers but his wife still thought he was cheating. Honestly I get the meal kit comparison though. You're still doing the hard part you just skip the boring prep work. Ngl if I had to grade 100 essays by hand every weekend I'd probably look for any shortcut too.

Oh man this brings me back to when I had a friend who was a chef and he got so mad at me for using a meal kit service. He was like you're missing the whole point of cooking. I get it now though because for me it's kind of like having a sous chef that chops the veggies but you still gotta taste and season everything yourself. I only use AI to flag the obvious spelling stuff too then I go back and do the actual grading by hand.
