Dropped $80 on an AI resume scanner to get past automated filters. It got me zero interviews and now I'm convinced these things are just gatekeepers.

Calling them gatekeepers is a bit much. They're just bad software that everyone has to deal with now.

That line about "gatekeepers" hits home. It feels like every step of the process, from job apps to customer service, has a new paywall or software hurdle that just makes things harder. I've seen it with my own bills, where you get charged extra just to speak to a real person.

Look at it this way though, is it really a paywall or just a fee for convenience? Like paying a couple bucks to skip the phone queue. Companies have always charged for extra service, now it's just more obvious. Sometimes the software is just cheaper for them to run, not some evil plan to lock you out.
