Changed my mind about AI art after dropping $200 on a generated album cover

I was always on the side that AI art is just lazy theft. But last month I needed an album cover for my band's demo real quick, and the local guy wanted $400 for a simple design. Found an AI tool, spent maybe 20 bucks on some credits, and got something decent in an hour. I felt like a hypocrite, but also the music needed to come out. Has anyone else caved on principle because of a tight deadline?

Spent $30 on credits for an album cover last month and told myself it was "just for the single." Now I got three more EPs waiting for covers and suddenly I'm a full-time AI art director. Guess the local designer should've offered a student discount or something.

Read something the other day about how AI music covers are basically becoming a whole new job sector for musicians who never wanted to learn design in the first place. @blake_bell29 I get that local designers are expensive, but I know a guy who spent $40 on a batch of AI credits for a project and the results looked like a melted crayon drawing. Ended up paying double to get it fixed by a real person anyway. Guess it depends on your setup and what you're going for, but rushing three EPs through an AI tool feels like playing roulette with your release schedule.

Yeah the "just for the single" thing is a dangerous trap lol. I've been there. The thing is, AI tools are fine for mockups and drafts but relying on them for finished products is risky. What I'd suggest is spend the $20-30 on AI to generate a solid concept you actually like, then take that to a designer and ask them to finish it for way less than the full $400. Most designers will work with you if you bring a clear vision and cut their labor time down. That way you keep your deadline, support an actual artist, and don't end up with three melted crayon covers that need fixing later. The band's music deserves something that holds up, not just something fast.
