Appreciation post: I thought AI job loss talk was just fearmongering until I saw the new warehouse layout
They replaced 12 manual packing stations with one automated line last month, and the union rep said it's a preview for the whole sector. Has anyone else seen a real-world shift that changed their mind on this?

Yeah, that's the real wake-up call. After seeing shifts like @karen_perry38 described, my advice is to get friendly with the tech now. Ask to shadow the maintenance crew on the new line, even just once a week. It's not a sure thing, but understanding the system makes you harder to replace when the next round comes.

Honestly, same thing happened at my old place. They put in these robotic arms for loading pallets, and just like that, three guys on each shift were gone. It wasn't some future talk, it was a Tuesday. The manager called it progress, but the break room felt different after that. Seeing it right in front of you makes the whole thing feel very real, very fast.

But what happens when the tech gets so simple it doesn't NEED a dedicated crew? Like those new palletizers that just run and run, and a call to the vendor is the only "maintenance." Do we just become the people who watch the lights blink?
