Three years ago in Seattle, I saw a gallery show that made me rethink the whole 'soul' argument against AI art.

Saw a show like that in Chicago last year. It was all AI generated portraits based on old police sketches. The creepy, imperfect faces got to me in a way a human made painting never has. Made me realize the "soul" is just the feeling it gives you, not who made it. The machine was just the tool, but the idea behind it was totally human. Changed my mind on the spot.

But what if the soul is in the struggle? The machine doesn't have a bad day or fight a doubt. It just makes a thing. For me, the feeling I get from art is tied to knowing a person pushed through all that to make it. The tool matters because it shapes the fight. A perfect, creepy face from AI is interesting, but it feels empty to me without that human friction behind it.

That Seattle show felt like a ghost made the art, honestly.
