Realized our local art fair banned AI art after talking to a vendor

I went to the Springville Art Walk last Saturday and noticed one booth had a sign saying "no AI generated work here." I asked the painter about it and she said the organizers quietly added a rule last month after some drama over a digital piece that won second place. She showed me a photo of the winning piece and honestly I couldn't tell if it was AI or not. Has anyone else seen local shows cracking down on this kind of thing?

Wow, they actually gave it second place before even knowing it was AI?

I heard on a podcast that the judges were just really impressed with how polished the writing was, obviously.

Actually I think that podcast might have gotten it a little wrong... I remember reading the official statement from the competition organizers and they said the judges didn't even know it was AI until after they gave it the award. They just thought it was a really clean, well-structured piece of writing from a human. So the whole "second place before knowing" thing is basically right but the podcast made it sound like the judges were suspicious or something. They weren't, they were genuinely impressed by the flow and formatting. That's what made the whole thing so wild when it came out, you know... nobody caught it.
