My kid's crayon dog vs AI art got me rethinking creativity

My daughter spent hours on a crayon picture of our dog. Later, I saw an AI image that looked just like it, but it was perfect. It had me thinking, what makes art special? Is it the time put in or the final look? Now I see AI stuff everywhere, and it feels empty. Why do we care who did it? Maybe the debate is bigger than I thought.

Wow, that is so true and it really gets to me! My nephew made me a splotchy watercolor fish last year and I still have it on my desk, but an AI could make a perfect one in seconds and it would mean nothing. I totally agree with @oscar_lopez, the mess and the time is everything because it's a little piece of that person. The perfect AI stuff just feels cold, like looking at a catalog.

Don't you just love that feeling, @claire836? Those messy kid art pieces have so much heart compared to cold AI stuff!

Oh man, that hits home! I went through the same thing with my niece's paintings. The way I see it, the mess and the time are the whole point. That crayon picture is a record of your kid's afternoon and her love for your dog. I put the wonky art on the fridge and scroll past the AI stuff.
