My cousin's kid said my AI art was 'cheating' at a family BBQ in Phoenix.

He's 12, really into drawing, and he just looked at a picture I generated and said 'You didn't make that, the computer did, it's like using a calculator on a math test.' Honestly, it hit different coming from a kid. Has anyone else had a moment that made the whole 'is it art' thing feel super personal?

Ouch, kids are ruthless! I mean, tell him to try getting a good image out of the thing first, that's the real test.

Yeah, kids have a way of cutting right to it. That calculator line is brutal. The thing is, it's not the same at all. A calculator just gives an answer. You still have to come up with the idea, the prompt, and guide the whole process. It's a tool, not a cheat. It just hits harder when someone you know doesn't see the work behind it.

Oh man, that stings! My niece said something almost the same last month. She asked why I didn't just learn to paint for real, and I didn't have a good answer. It really does feel personal when it comes from family.
