My ai art tool glitched and showed me the real problem

I was messing with Stable Diffusion last night to generate a portrait for a client and it spat out this mangled face with six fingers. Made me realize I spend more time fixing AI mistakes than I would just drawing the thing from scratch. Anyone else feel like the tool creates more work than it saves?

Wait, are you actually comparing the time spent fixing AI output to the time it would take to hand draw a full portrait from zero? Because I've done both and there's no way you're being serious. If you're spending more time fixing glitches than drawing, you're either using the wrong tool or you're overcomplicating the fix process. A couple of bad generations then inpainting the fingers takes me maybe 10 minutes. Drawing a whole realistic portrait by hand takes hours, plus you have to scrap it entirely if you mess up halfway.

Used to roll my eyes at people complaining about AI art workflow, but the thermostat thing @willow_morgan mentioned actually clicked for me. My neighbor has one of those smart fridges that beeps at him when the ice maker jams, takes him twenty minutes to dig the manual out and reset the thing. Way easier to just open the freezer and grab a tray. Same logic applies to the art tools if you're fighting them more than working with them.

It's not just AI art though, this kind of thing pops up everywhere now. My buddy got a "smart" thermostat that constantly misreads the temperature and has to be manually overridden, which takes way longer than just walking over to the old dial. We're trading simple, reliable systems for shiny tech that demands constant babysitting to get basic results. At some point you gotta ask if the "help" is really helping or just adding another chore to your day.
