I was sure AI art was just fancy filters until I saw it make a whole comic book

A friend in Austin showed me a 12-page comic he made last month using Midjourney and some other tools. The style was totally consistent across every panel, and the characters looked like real people. I had to admit it was more than just pushing a button. It made me wonder where the line is between a tool and the artist. Has anyone else had a moment where AI art actually surprised them?

Wow, that comic example is exactly what changed my mind too. It's one thing to see a single weird image, but a whole consistent story? That takes real direction and vision from the person using the tools. The line gets blurry because the artist is still making every big choice, like the story, the angles, and the edits. It's just a new kind of brush. So maybe the artist is whoever pushes it past being random and into saying something specific. What do you call that role if it's not being the artist?

Yeah, that's a tough spot to be in.
