I finally listened to my friend who said AI art was just a tool, not a thief

My buddy Mark, who does graphic design in Austin, told me six months ago to stop seeing AI as a replacement and start using it for quick mock-ups. I tried it on a client project last week, making five background concepts in an hour instead of a day. It let me focus on the detailed hand-drawn elements they actually paid for. Has anyone else found a specific workflow where AI helps without taking over the whole creative job?

Oh man, this is exactly how I see it too. It's like any other tool that came before, people just freak out at first. My dad used to say the same thing about calculators in school, that they'd ruin math, but they just got rid of the boring long division part. AI feels the same, it handles the grunt work so you can do the part that actually needs a human brain. It's weird how every new tech goes through this "it's cheating" phase before it just becomes normal.

My friend's teacher called her AI outline cheating, but she just wrote a better paper.

abby943 is right, it's just a tool. Teachers need to set clear rules instead of calling everything cheating. The point is to learn, not do busy work.
