Had to pick between using AI art for my band's album cover or paying an artist friend $500. Went with my friend.

The AI stuff was tempting, could've gotten a 'cool' image for like $20. But my friend's a real illustrator who's been grinding for years. Felt wrong to just type some words into a machine when she could actually use the work and bring her own ideas. The cover she made is way more personal and has little details about our songs. But now I'm seeing other local bands using AI art and it looks... fine? Did I just waste money on a 'principle'? Anyone else face a similar choice?

That "hidden lyric in the fence posts" is the whole point. You bought a piece of your own story, not just a picture. That's never a waste of money.

Ever have a shirt that fits just right versus one that's just a size? That's the difference for me. My buddy painted our demo cover with a hidden lyric in the fence posts, something no AI would ever think of. Those personal touches make it feel like ours, not just a stock image. The money kept his lights on that month, and that feels better than any cheap option.

That hidden lyric idea is genius. Your buddy sounds like a real artist, not just someone pushing pixels. I had a guy do a mural for my niece's room once, and he painted a tiny ladybug on one of the leaves. That was his signature thing, and it made the whole wall feel alive. Nobody notices it at first, but when they do, it's a cool little secret. That kind of care is worth every penny, no question.
